The Catechetical Unit of Rachol Seminary organised Didache 2026, an overnight seminar for newly inducted catechists, on 11th –12th July 2026. Centred on the theme “Called to Teach, Chosen to Witness,” the seminar brought together 35 catechists from 17 parishes for a time of formation, prayer, fellowship, and reflection. The formation sessions were conducted by Sems. Bloyd Dias, Fedrick Vas, and Arun Souza, while the seminar was coordinated by Sem. Aaron Gonsalves.
The primary aim of the seminar was to equip participants with a deeper understanding of their identity and vocation as catechists, their responsibilities in the Church, and practical methods for effectively teaching the faith to children. Through interactive sessions, discussions, and activities, the participants explored the ministry of catechesis, learner-centred teaching methods, and various tools and approaches that can make catechetical lessons more engaging and meaningful.
The sessions also reflected on the recent encyclical of Pope Leo, Magnifica Humanitas, highlighting the dignity of the human person and the mission of catechists in nurturing faith in today’s world. Drawing inspiration from the vocation and missionary zeal of St. Paul, the participants reflected on his conversion, his unwavering commitment to proclaiming the Gospel, and his example as a model for catechists called to faithfully hand on the teachings of the Church to the younger generation.
A special highlight of the seminar was the testimonial by Mrs. Sarina Da Costa, an experienced catechist, who shared her journey of faith and ministry with the participants. She encouraged the newly inducted catechists to embrace their vocation with love, dedication, and perseverance, reminding them not to lose the precious opportunity to proclaim the Word of God and to inspire the faith of the younger generation.
Alongside the formation sessions, participants experienced moments of prayer, Eucharistic Adoration, group sharing, and the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, fostering both spiritual growth and community life. The seminar concluded with renewed enthusiasm among the newly inducted catechists to embrace their ministry with faith, confidence, and a spirit of joyful service.
